$4.5 Million [Pedestrian vs. Van]
Our 86 year old client was walking across the street at an intersection when he was struck by a van. The police report found our client at fault. Only after the Corbett law firm conducted an extensive investigation and found key witnesses, was it discovered that the van driver had actually cut short the left turn (not waiting for the car in front of it to turn left) striking the pedestrian. Our client sustained multiple fractures and respiratory distress and was hospitalized for over 6 months.
It is believed this is the largest recovery in California for a personal injury of a person over 80 years of age.
$2.25 Million [Low Impact Auto accident]
Our client, age 52, was rear ended while exiting a parking lot. He was struck by a vehicle traveling about 10-15 mph.
Client sustained an aggravation of a congenital deformity of the low back (spondylolisthesis) resulting in intractable pain, requiring a triple level lumbar fusion. The fusion failed resulting in client's total disability from working as a lumber yard salesman.
The testimony of our bio-mechanical engineer expert proved that such an injury could occur despite the low speed.
$2.25 Million (Wrongful death)(Bicycle case)
Arbitration result published in state and national legal publications. Our 72 year old retired client was riding his bike on the shoulder of the road when the defendant driver, traveling at 55 mph, claimed he was blinded by the lights of oncoming traffic (5:50 A.M.) and drifted onto the shoulder of the road striking our client. Client was killed on impact, leaving a wife of 37 years and 3 adult children.
$1.1 Million [Motorcycle accident]
Our client was riding his motorcycle on El Camino Real in Burlingame when an SUV pulled out in front of him. Careful accident reconstruction proved the accident was the SUV's fault and our motorcyclist was not speeding. Our client sustained facial and skull fractures, facial scars, a fractured ankle, foot and elbow. He also sustained a post traumatic concussion syndrome affecting his memory.
$1.05 Million [Auto accident]
Our client, age 25, was returning home from her day of work, traveling on Crow Canyon Road, Castro Valley at the speed limit of 55 mph when she was hit head-on by a vehicle traveling the opposite direction. Our client suffered significant leg fractures as well as post-traumatic concussion syndrome. Her jaw was wired shut for 3 weeks to heal, forcing a liquid diet.
$1.1 Million [Auto accident]
Our Client was traveling on State Route 116, Petaluma, returning home from work when a car in oncoming traffic was stopped ahead, waiting to make a left turn. A Coca-Cola truck following behind the stopped car, passed the stopped car on the right at the last second resulting in the car tailgating the Coke truck to ram the stopped car knocking each of them into oncoming traffic, colliding head on with our client's vehicle.
Our client sustained two herniated discs at the lumbar level of the low back, resulting in a double level surgical fusion with metal cages implanted to secure the spine. The fusion of bone did not solidify resulting in chronic pain and significant disability and work limitations.
$1.15 Million [Motorcycle accident]
Client age 35 was on his motorcycle when he was rear ended in traffic, thrown forward off of his bike and onto the roadway. He sustained nasal and sinus fractures, post-traumatic concussion syndrome effecting memory and a neck injury which resulted in significant sexual dysfunction. After settling for the policy limit of $100,000 with the insurance company for the driver responsible for the accident, the Corbett law firm pursued claimant's rights under his own underinsurance coverage with State Farm on his motorcycle, and recovered an additional 1.05 million.
$1.0 Million [Auto accident]
Our client, 39 years old and 8 months pregnant, was struck head-on by a pick-up truck. The police cited the pick-up driver for driving on a suspended license and for not having insurance on his vehicle. He had no assets to recover against.
Fortunately, our exhaustive investigation revealed that the no-license, no-insurance driver was actually on a mission for a person for whom he was working at the time and recovery was made under the employer's business insurance policy for the maximum amount available.
The client's injuries included left hip and femur fractures and right ankle and foot fractures. The baby was born healthy and uninjured.
